Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 Unveiled: Thinner, Lighter, and Sharper Than Ever
Samsung has officially pulled the wraps off its Galaxy Z Fold 7, and this year’s iteration finally brings the significant design overhaul that foldable fans have been waiting for. Announced at the latest Unpacked event, the Z Fold 7 is not just an incremental upgrade — it’s a dramatic rethinking of the foldable form, with a thinner body, reduced weight, improved display, and upgraded camera system.
The Galaxy Z Fold 7 has shed substantial bulk compared to its predecessor. It now measures just 8.9mm thick when folded and a mere 4.2mm when open — a 26% reduction in thickness. It’s also lighter than before, weighing 215 grams, down from the Z Fold 6’s 239 grams. With these changes, Samsung has brought the Fold 7’s dimensions in line with its non-folding flagship, the Galaxy S25 Ultra, making it easier to pocket and handle while still offering the versatility of a tablet-sized screen.
Samsung didn’t stop at trimming down the body. The main display has grown from 7.6 to 8 inches, delivering more space for productivity and entertainment without making the device feel bulkier. The IP48 rating remains the same, but Samsung says internal improvements have enhanced liquid resistance. On the camera front, the Fold 7 gains a flagship-level 200MP primary sensor—borrowed from the Galaxy S25 Ultra—while the under-display selfie cam has been replaced with a more conventional 10MP hole-punch camera. It may be a step back in terms of futuristic tech, but for clearer video calls, it’s a smart move.
Beyond the hardware, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 also benefits from Samsung’s continued software optimization for foldables. Enhanced multitasking features let users seamlessly run up to three apps at once, and the improved taskbar provides faster access to frequently used tools. Paired with the larger display, these refinements push the Z Fold 7 closer to becoming a true productivity powerhouse — one that can easily transition between smartphone and tablet roles depending on the need. Combined with its sleeker form and premium build, the Z Fold 7 cements itself as Samsung’s most compelling foldable yet.
