Colby Covington trashes London in diatribe at UFC 286

Fresh off weighing in as the backup for Leon Edwards’ successful welterweight title defense against Kamaru Usman at UFC 286 in London on Saturday, welterweight contender Colby Covington, who says he’s “Donald Trump’s favorite fighter,” went on a steaming tirade on all things England.

“This hasn’t been a welcome place,” Covington explained. “The food sucks, the weather sucks, the girls definitely suck.”

Those weren’t Covington’s only anti-British comments for Edwards, either.

“We buried the English in 1776, and I’d love to bury him [Edwards] in his home country,” Covington said.

After Edwards defeated Usman by majority decision, UFC president Dana White declared Covington the No. 1 contender for Edwards’ title.

Covington’s trash talk and brash persona are one of the many ways he has built his brand and become successful.

But Edwards, a Birmingham, England native, didn’t take too kindly to Covington’s remarks after his win over Usman.

“I’m the king now; I get to decide who is next,” Edwards said.

Edwards initially lost to Usman in 2015 but defeated him last August with a head kick for a fifth-round knockout.

Covington, 35, hasn’t fought since defeating Jorge Masvidal via unanimous decision last March, In his previous fight, Covington lost to Usman via unanimous decision.
