Knicks trade Ousmane Dieng to Thunder after taking him with No. 11 pick in 2022 NBA Draft

With the 11th overall pick in the NBA Draft, the New York Knicks selected Ousmane Dieng on Thursday night at the Barclays Center.

After the Knicks selected Dieng, New York officially traded the him to the Oklahoma City Thunder for multiple first round picks as it was announced at the podium by NBA commissioner Adam Silver.

New York will receive three protected first round picks in the 2023 NBA Draft from the Pistons, Washington Wizards and Denver Nuggets, according Shams Charania of The Athletic.

This was the second straight year the Knicks had a pick outside the Top 10 after having three straight selections in the top eight from 2018-20.

The 2021-22 season was a tough one for Knicks fans. New York did not make the postseason as it finished 37-45, one spot short of reaching the play-in tournament round. The deciding factor of the Knicks season was the brutal stretch from mid-January to early March. After a 117-108 victory over the Atlanta Hawks on Jan. 15, the team lost 17 of 20 games and saw their record fall from 22-21 to 25-38.

This came after a 41-31 record in the 2020-21 season where they qualified for the NBA playoffs for the first time since 2012-13. Unfortunately the Knicks couldn’t get much going as it lost in five games to the Hawks in the first round.
