Meta and Oakley Debut ‘Performance AI’ Smart Glasses Aimed at Athletes

Meta has officially unveiled a new line of smart glasses designed specifically for active users, in partnership with performance eyewear brand Oakley. Called the Oakley Meta HSTN, the new glasses mark Meta’s expansion beyond its existing Ray-Ban collaboration and signal its ambitions to blend cutting-edge AI features with sports-ready design. The announcement follows weeks of teasers and earlier reports suggesting a new partnership was in the works.
The Oakley Meta HSTN glasses feature a single ultra-wide 12MP camera capable of recording in 3K resolution — a significant upgrade over the 1080p capture supported by the original Ray-Ban Meta glasses. Positioned on one side of the frame, the camera is accompanied by an LED privacy light on the other.
Users can snap photos, livestream, and even take video calls from a first-person perspective. Integrated Meta AI functionality also enables the glasses to answer questions about the wearer’s surroundings, turning the device into a hands-free, vision-aware assistant.
According to Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, the new smart glasses are “built for action.” Based on Oakley’s HSTN frame design, they appear to be geared toward more rugged, high-movement environments, though they retain the same IPX4 water resistance as earlier Meta models.
The lenses use Oakley’s signature Prizm and Prizm Polarized technology, offering improved visual clarity and UV protection. With this move, Meta is not just targeting tech enthusiasts, but also athletes and outdoor adventurers looking for AI-powered functionality built into familiar, performance-driven eyewear.
