Fox Sports personality Skip Bayless and his wife, Ernestine Sclafani Bayless, don’t see eye-to-eye when it comes to LeBron James.
Bayless — who has basically made a career out of bashing James as an analyst with ESPN and now Fox — discussed the Lakers star in an interview with his wife, who confessed that she is quite fond of the Lakers star.
“I don’t bring it up because I’m afraid,” Ernestine said on “The Skip Bayless Show” last Thursday. She was responding to a fan question that asked for her thoughts about James. “I like LeBron, I’m sorry. I’m going to admit. I do like LeBron James. I think that he’s done wonderful things for being a role model.
“I know he curses occasionally, but everyone curses. But I think that he seems to be a nice guy. Even after the game and they talk to him, he’s really calm and he’s really nice and he tries. I don’t have hatred for him. He’s built schools (the I Promise School in Akron, Ohio) and he’s done all these wonderful things.”
Ernestine said she spotted James in New York City, though she did not want to risk an introduction given Skip’s never-ending animus toward the four-time NBA champion.
“I don’t have a hatred. I saw him walking on Central Park South one day. I was going to say ‘hi’ to him but I thought he was gonna punch me if I told him who I was,” she said. “So I just looked at him from afar and I was like, ‘Wow, he’s very tall.’ Other than that, I don’t have a problem with him. I think he is a nice man. I would like to meet him and say ‘hello.’ He could call me, he could say ‘hello.’ I don’t care. I like him.”
Bayless didn’t argue his wife’s opinion and said, “OK, fair enough.” He did, however, interject a few times during his wife’s explanation to note that James curses “a lot,” among other sly remarks.
Before that, Ernestine called out Skip when he said the couple has never spoken about James at home.
“Obviously I’ve had my issues with LeBron as a basketball player,” Skip said. “Just on the basketball court… but you and I have never spoken about LeBron at home. I don’t bring it home.”
Ernestine shook her head, and said, “You don’t bring it home? They should do a reality show of us because that would be a really good one.”
