Walter Hamada On Verge Of Exiting DC Films After ‘Black Adam’ Release

DC Films president Walter Hamada is reportedly on the verge of exiting his post after the release of Black Adam.

Following this week’s bombshell news that Warner Bros. Discovery would be shelving the already-filmed Batgirl film, as well as CEO David Zaslav’s intentions on updating the leadership for DC Films, THR reports that Walter Hamada has consulted counsel about the prospect of exiting, but looks to remain until at least Black Adam hits theaters this October.

THR’s report comes from sources close to the situation. Regarding Walter Hamada‘s intentions, a source released the following statement regarding the current DC Films president:

“He’s pausing. The decision has not been made to make this adversarial yet.”

According to the report, Warner Bros. Pictures CEO’s Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy told Walter Hamada about the cancellation of Batgirl during a test screening of Black Adam. De Luca and Abdy are overseeing DC Films until David Zaslav settles on new leadership, given that this new corporate restructuring seeks to overhaul the brand, with a 10-year plan looking to improve its image with quality films. Given this new approach, Batgirl was deemed not strong enough for a theatrical release, and too expensive for its original HBO Max plans, so a tax writedown will be made on this project.

Here is the synopsis for DC Films’ next release, Black Adam:

Nearly 5,000 years after he was bestowed with the almighty powers of the ancient gods—and imprisoned just as quickly—Black Adam (Johnson) is freed from his earthly tomb, ready to unleash his unique form of justice on the modern world.

Directed by Jaume Collet-Serra from a script written by by Adam Sztykiel and Rory Haines & Sohrab Noshirvani, the DCEU film stars Dwayne Johnson, Aldis Hodge, Noah Centineo, Sarah Shahi, Marwan Kenzari, Quintessa Swindell, Bodhi Sabongui, and Pierce Brosnan.

Black Adam opens in theaters on October 21, 2022. Be sure to continue following Leak Herald for all the latest news regarding the future of Walter Hamada and DC Films, and subscribe to our YouTube channel for more original video content.
